Alien: Isolation™ - The Collection App Reviews
Awesome game
The best Alien game ever!!! Works perfectly on MacBook Pro 2012 – Mac OS X – El Capitan. Thanks for that port!
I bought this game mainly as a stress test for the graphics capabilities of the MacBook Pro 2015 (I already have the game for the XBox One). At 1440 x 900 with everything on high, the game looks fantastic and runs as smoothly…if not smoother…than the console version. Of course you can tweak the settings to your specific likings if you, say, would prefer a higher resolution and can live without fancy shadows and partile effects, but the bottom line is the game runs wonderfully on the 2015 MacBook Pro and is an easy recommend to anyone who has one and wants an atmospheric, hardcore videogaming experience!
runs beautifully on mid-2012 macbook pro retina (2.7 ghz, 16 gb ram). amazingly atmospheric, scary as all get out. interesting controls and minigames. learning curve is perfect. highly recommended.
If I were more of a hardcore gamer I might get into this more. The art and immersion as well as sound and motion on a late 2013 iMac all are to good effect and I applaud the makers and Ferrel Interactive for the port. It’s a stunning game. But I can’t finish it because for me, the repitition even on the easiest level is just not fun. I don’t like doing the same thing over and over and figuring out what I did wrong just before I was able to get to a save point. I made it to level 10. I even have a walkthrough and FAQ, but I just don’t feel like going through most of the level another time. The trouble is that when the alien is actively chasing you the weapon stays front and center and you don’t have the option to interact with items needed to complete the level. There is a key to put the weapon away but I can’t figure out which one. Even on easy it’s probably one of the most difficult games I’ve ever picked up. It doesn’t scare me. It frustrates me, even worse it’s comfoundingly difficult. To the point where it’s no longer fulfilling my purpose for its use, that is, I play games for fun. To explore material, position and tactics. To use creativity to solve problems and emmerse in a story. Not to try and figure out something, have the solution and then get stomped because I can’t figure out the controls fast enough. And I looked at the key map, there is no listing for this that I could find. Statistically only 15% of people who buy this game for Playstation finish the game based on analytics. I can see why. Yes buy the game. But don’t expect to finish it without the fight of your gaming life. I may eventually go back and finish it, but I doubt it. More like replay the first few levels or some of the DLC. Or even use it as a benchmark to test out a new computer. In the final analysis I just want to say that more than anything else this game gets me excited about the new generation of games we will be seeing. Games now look astonishing to me. I’ve always loved playing and I’ve seen almost everything since Pong. It’s a great time to be alive. Thank you to Feral for making it a treat to own a Mac. I like only buying the best of the best games. And that is what the Mac platform offers more than any other. Only the games worth having make it to the Mac. Everything else with a few exceptions I can skip.
The Alien was coming. Locker became my best friend. Tried to be a hero and got out. Not a hero. Goes back to locker. 10/10 Would change my pants again.
Good Game but outdated
This game is incredibly good. I played it on my iPad with the free trial, and I’ve seen playthroughs, but it hasn’t been updated in years and doesn’t support controllers. It also lags a lot. They should seriously update it to the version they released for iOS because it works and looks great there, but on here, it’s outdated. I recommend getting this on iOS instead of macOS because it’s so outdated. Feral Interactive, please update this game. The 1 star is just to push them to update it quicker.
Message Feral because they will help ASAP
I have a brand new Xbox controller. It works with all my other Mac OS games. For some reason it will NOT work with this game. I go into settings and it shows an Xbox controller layout so I assume it’s recognizing it but will not let me do anything with the controller. Only the mouse and keyboard. ****Went from 1 star to 4 stars because the company Feral was really helpful. And now my problem is fixed! Now I’m very happy to play the game.****
I doubt anyone actually played it before they published it
Mouse hovers over the screen. UI elements from OSX jump out when you do this or that. It runs like photoshop rather than a video game
Doesn’t work with apple silicon
I don’t care what you advertise about this game working with apple silicon. It doesn’t!
Not updated to Apple silicon
Imagine Feral went through the effort of porting Alien: Isolation to Apple silicon, but only released it on iOS, keeping the macOS version stuck as an Intel binary. I'm thankful that Feral exists, but man is that company run by dim bulbs.
I must be doing this wrong
I was so excited about this game, but it seems the only thing I'm doing in it is walking around looking for stuff with absolutely nothing happening. Down one corridor, then another, into a room, back to the corridor. And when I try to gather things, I constantly get a message about not being able to collect certain items because something is "exceeded". I had to go so far as to write down all the instructions, but that's not much help. Most everyone else says they love the game, so it's something I'm just not doing right.
Amazing game but no 60 FPS
This is the greatest horror game ever made. Alien isolation was to 2014 what Silent hill 2 was to 2001. It deserves a sequel or a remake. I bought the game on PC, Playstation 4, Xbox series X, Nintendo switch, and now Mac. The soul of the game is still there with all the DLC. So why do I give it 4 stars instead of 5? There’s 2 reasons. I have the most recent Macbook air but it doesn't run at 60 FPS mode like does for Xbox and PC. The second reason is that my purchase doesn’t transfer over to the iPhone and iPad versions. Those versions are another $15 but I paid $40 for the Mac version and it doesn’t rollover to the iPhone and iPad ecosystem. That’s not cool. I want to be clear, I’m speaking as a fan and not a troll. If you think my criticism is unfair then let me know.
Be careful...
This app isn't ported to Apple Silicon. Ran on a 14" Macbook Pro with 32 gigs of ram with 16 graphic cores and ran like flaming garbage. App obviously has not been ported to Apple Silicon, so the app is translated first. Not worth the money until the developer ports it to Apple Silicon, I am getting a refund.
Update...
After recveving a fix from developer the game is running smoothgly!!!!
this game was a blast!
i downloaded this game and i had a few weeks of not downloading any apps and to this day i can now download apps again because i used a visa gift card and apple resolved it for me i was having the roughest days not downloading any apps and now i can download apps but at the same time thank you for making this game i loved it and the story was unique and have a wonderful day!
Really wanted to like it - but a fatal flaw...
Read reviews. Looked good. Got it. Playing on Macbook Pro with trackpad was hard. Player seemed to adhere to the walls a bit and the tracking would not responds without lots of overcorrection. Changed to a mouse - issue was resolved mosty. Now the flaw. You never ever get your game saved without manually saving it - no matter how many missions you complete. It is possible to almost complete the game and lose everything. I read the developer's rationale for this. Seemed ok until i realized that completing a missiong is not an autosave. This blows hard. Lost 1.5 hrs of hard work. Deleting this game now. You've been warned.
Best Syfy Horror Game!
After purchasing the game on xbox one with all DLC, I just recently found the game on mac, and thought it would never run, but when i loaded the game in full form, everything was smooth and worked perfectly, I did see a review about the noise being loud, you can adjust ingame settings to where all noise is lowered but also high enough to hear eveything, also having a good headset could be part of that issue as well, but not everyone can just buy a good head set but most affordable ones are around $30 that are decent for audio, the point is its a great game and DLC is amazing, worht every penny!!!
Brilliant game
Everything about this game captures the fear, dread, and survival instinct of the original Alien movie. Attention to detail is what makes this game shine. You can’t go in with guns blazing; you have to be more resourceful and smarter than that. Each gaming session left my adrenaline set to 11. For me, this is an example of masterful game design for the FPS genre (with less emphasis on the shooting part). You still get to blow things up, though!
Exciting adventure!
Thank you, Feral, for bringing such a great adventure to the Mac! I enjoyed the great combination of adventure, stealth, and FPS. Yes, it was hard sometimes, but the save points get more frequent in the later chapters of the story, which made it less frustrating. My audio may be different than others, but the beep of the save stations was not intrusive. Rather, it was a great relief to hear that there was one nearby! There are some surprises, and even some humor. Fortunately, I could laugh out loud without the monster or a synthetic hearing me. Even some failures are (sort of) fun. It has been a long time since I have felt exhilaration like I did when yanked from my hiding place because I wasn’t being quiet enough! I’m using a Macbook Pro 2015, and I did choose to run at less than max graphics resolution in order to keep it very responsive, since quick, precise action is sometimes needed. It still looked great and was fully enjoyable despite some frustrating stretches. It was hours of immersive fun and excitement. I took a chance, paying a fairly high price for it, but it was worth every penny.
beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep
This game is gorgeous, the environments and sound design are immersive and exciting. Could've easily been a 5 star experience. Except the developers couldn’t come up with any other solution for the user to find a save station other than a never-ending, deafening beep, which is so piercing it destroys my ability to enjoy any of the work put in by the other artists. Points of interest and consoles with info are usually found near these save points, so the user is required to stay near the save consoles where the sfx are the loudest. With no escape from the headache, unbelievably, the experience is ruined.
Almost Great

Great Alien game!
No problems running on a 2012 Mac Pro with 1 GB video card. Runs even better on my Mac Book Pro with 2 GB video memory. Very fun game to play in the dark. It is a sneek around type game, not a shoot-em-up game. You creep around accomplishing tasks all the while trying to avoid THE ALIEN!!! It is challenging and enjoyable. Only negative is that it takes a very loing time to download.
